Pride Enjoy, a new all natural, plant-based, allergen free baking company introduces Radical Rainbow Cookies

Riverhead, NY (PRWEB) October 05, 2014

Pride Enjoy enters the specialty cookie market with a gluten-free and vegan-friendly treat called Radical Rainbow Cookies. Pride Enjoy is a new baking company from Long Island’s East End. “Now everyone can enjoy the tri-color Italian cookie. Our colorful, almond flavored, cake-like cookies with jam and outer layers of chocolate meet the dietary needs of Vegans and people with allergies to wheat, soy, milk, eggs and nuts,” explained Janel Ordemann, Owner, Pride-Enjoy, Riverhead, New York.

Radical Rainbow Cookies were created for everyone to enjoy, especially people who have allergies or opt for natural ingredients in food choices. Business owner and cookie creator Janel Ordemann has developed a cookie recipe that maintains all of the desirable qualities to appeal to a broad audience without leaving anyone out. “The goal of these cookies is to appeal not only to cookie lovers but to consumers who are often left out because of allergies,” states Ordemann. According to FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education) 4 percent of American adults have severe life threatening food allergies, 8 percent of American children have food allergies, 2.5 percent of Americans follow a Vegan diet and 45 percent of Americans purchase and consume all natural foods. According to the CDC food allergies among children increased 50 percent between 1997 and 2011.

There is broad market appeal for a product serving a growing population that must consume foods such as Pride Enjoy’s Radical Rainbow Cookie. “Too often people, especially children, are left out of the fun when foods are off-limits because of health concerns,” adds Ordemann. This has not gone unnoticed according to a report from companiesandmarkets.com. The global food allergy and intolerance market is expected to exceed $ 26 billion by 2017. Food Product Design magazine reports, “It is clear that the “free-from sector” is set for further growth, with interest continuing to spread from those diagnosed as celiac disease, food allergies and intolerances, as well as rising interest in health and wellness. This sector is poised for continued growth due to ongoing development of a greater range of products that don’t sacrifice quality, texture or taste.”

Janel Ordemann, a professional assistant with Suffolk Community College Baking & Pastry Arts Program in Riverhead, worked for months to source ingredients and get the recipe just right. Obstacles involved replacing conventional food coloring with plant dyes, including almond flavor while following nut-free guidelines, sourcing a chocolate free of soy and milk, and finding a gluten free flour that leaves no gritty mouth-feel. “Anything less than perfection was not an option,” she states.

A Kickstarter campaign has been launched to help fund this emerging alternative baking company. Rewards (most of which include their Radical Rainbow Cookies) are offered to project backers as a thank you for their support. If fully funded (Kickstarter is all or nothing) the money will go toward certifications (Kosher, Non-GMO, Gluten-Free, Vegan) and lab tests regarding nutritionals and allergens, in addition to other more common baking company start-up expenses. The campaign is not only a great way to give the business a strong financial start, but also a way to connect with different communities while launching their specialty cookies.

The company plans for a majority of its sales to be wholesale. Initially they see Radical Rainbow Cookies being sold in Suffolk County gourmet markets, delis, cafes, and health food shops. They also plan to take part in Farmers Markets. This is where they will get a chance to directly interact with their customers and receive feedback. The shared gluten free commercial kitchen that the company has lined up lends itself perfectly to a sales model of this nature.
